Learned So Far

The random things we’ve learned so far:

  • Luggage is fully insured by the airlines when traveling, except for the following items; wheels, handles, zippers, the physical case and the contents.
  • Sharper Image luggage has a hidden advertising campaign to advertise from the garbage dump.
  • Kirkland and Brookstone luggage is by far the most rugged luggage we’ve used.
  • Lightweight clothing like REI or Columbia quick dry clothing drys very quick but also stinks about as well as it drys.
  • Check for chicken poop in the shower before walking in.
  • Buy flour in plastic bags, even if they are smaller, they have far less bugs.
  • Roosters in Panama have no internal clock or an ability to know it is dark out and therefore they crow every 20 minutes to make sure they are crowing at dawn.
  • When peeing over the side of the boat with no one around, you are being watched, so make it look good.
  • Bats will always hang from any item you want to take from the bodega (shed).

  • Driving a boat keeps one humble.
  • Parking a boat can not only break the boat but can also break the ego of a man, over and over again.

  • If you’re scared of something there’s probably a good reason to be scared.
  • I don’t know why people say its bad to have crabs, we have them, thousands of them, they eat bugs and are fun to watch.
  • If a chicken goes missing, check any sheds or outbuilding you locked up without checking if there may be a chicken inside.
  • Eating raw plantains can give you worms – I’m still waiting to see if this one is true, I’ll let you know.

Boat driving. Now there would have been an opportunity for me to do some ‘volunteer’ work – before you left.
Oh well. Over time you all will be experts. 🙂

Ahh . . . so experience IS a great teacher. Smile! You are definitely super students! I just shared this blog with my parents over the phone. They “roared”! A good sense of humor is one of the most important gifts God gives to equip people sharing the Good News. Please remember that as we laugh with you, we do not make light of the difficult adjustments you are making. You are always in our hearts and daily in our prayers.
